What Sleepful listens to, and where it stays

Sleepful uses your iPhone microphone through the night to measure your sleep. The audio is analysed on your iPhone, by Apple SoundAnalysis and by our own signal processing. The night recording is never uploaded. We never receive it and we cannot listen to it.

From that analysis the app works out your sleep and wake times, sleep stages, snoring and breathing. These are estimates, not a medical measurement.

Sound clips

When something stands out — a snore, a cough, a noise — the app saves a short audio clip. Clips are stored on your iPhone only.

You choose how long they are kept: 20 nights, which is the default, 100 nights, or forever. Profile has a Delete all clips button that removes every clip at once. Clips are never uploaded and are never included in iCloud sync.

Your nightly summaries

For each night the app keeps a summary: times, stages, score, snoring and breathing figures, and the weather. Summaries stay on your iPhone until you delete the app.

There is no button to delete a single past night. To have your nights erased, delete the app, or write to support@getsleepful.app.

The questions we ask when you start

Onboarding asks about your sleep and your life so the app can set a schedule and an alarm that fit you. The answers include your age band; caffeine, alcohol and nicotine habits; whether you use sleep aids; how much your sleep troubles you; whether anyone has noticed you stop breathing in your sleep; daytime sleepiness; high blood pressure; and shift or irregular work.

Some of that is health information, and we treat all of it as health information. You give it voluntarily, you can skip questions, and you can change any answer in Profile. It is stored on your iPhone.

iCloud sync, off unless you turn it on

iCloud sync is off by default. If you turn it on, your nightly summaries and your onboarding answers are copied into your own private iCloud database, in encrypted fields, under your Apple Account.

That copy is yours, not ours. It sits in Apple iCloud, it counts against your iCloud storage, and we have no access to it and no copy of it. Audio clips are never synced. To remove it, turn sync off, or delete the app data in your iCloud settings.

Weather

When a night starts, the app takes one location fix and sends the latitude and longitude to Open-Meteo to look up that night's weather. The request carries no name, no account, no identifier for you and no API key. Like any web request it shows your IP address to Open-Meteo, and we do not control what Open-Meteo logs.

You can refuse location. The app then works normally, without weather.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and we never see your card.

We use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user id created on your device, together with your purchase, trial and renewal events. There is no account and no login, and the id is not your name or your email. If you delete and reinstall the app, a new id is created. RevenueCat acts as our processor.

Advertising measurement

We buy ads for Sleepful and we measure which ads work. There are no ads inside the app.

For this the app includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK, which reports your install and your app opens to Meta. RevenueCat also sends your trial starts, purchases and renewals to Meta, through Meta's Conversions API, so a subscription can be matched to the ad that led to it. The identifiers used for that matching are your device vendor identifier, your IP address, an anonymous Meta install id, and, only if you allow it, the advertising identifier (IDFA).

When you first open the app, iOS asks whether Sleepful may track you across other companies' apps and websites. If you say no, the advertising identifier is not used and the match is much weaker; install and app-open events still reach Meta. You can change your answer at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Tracking.

This is the only part of Sleepful that sends anything about you to another company for advertising. It never includes your audio, your clips, your nights or your questionnaire answers.

What Sleepful does not do

• No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and we hold no profile about you.
• No analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK.
• No HealthKit. Sleepful neither reads nor writes Apple Health.
• No ads inside the app.
• We do not sell your sleep data, your clips or your questionnaire answers, and we never send them to Meta or to any other advertiser.

Who receives data, and on what terms

• Apple — the App Store purchase, and iCloud if you turn sync on.
• RevenueCat, Inc. — subscription status, as our processor, under its data processing agreement.
• Meta Platforms — install, app-open and purchase events with the identifiers above, for advertising measurement.
• Open-Meteo — one latitude and longitude per night, for the weather.

Each of them is required to give your data the same or equal protection as this policy states and as Apple's App Store Review Guidelines require. We share your data with no one else.

How long things are kept

• Audio clips: 20 nights, 100 nights or forever, as you choose, on your device.
• Nightly summaries and questionnaire answers: on your iPhone until you delete the app, and in your own iCloud if you turned sync on.
• Subscription records at RevenueCat: for as long as we run the app, under its agreement with us.
• Advertising events at Meta: under Meta's own retention rules, which we do not control.

We run no server of our own. There is no Sleepful database holding your nights.

Withdrawing consent and deleting your data

• Microphone, location and tracking: change or withdraw any of them at any time in iOS Settings, under Sleepful. The app keeps working, with less.
• Clips: Profile, then Delete all clips.
• The iCloud copy: turn sync off, or delete the app data in your iCloud settings.
• Everything on the device: delete the app. That removes your nights, clips and answers.
• Anything we or our processors hold: write to support@getsleepful.app and we will act on it.

If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area

We rely on your consent for the microphone, the health-related questions, location and advertising measurement, and on our contract with you to run your subscription. Because your sleep data and your answers are health data, we rely on your explicit consent for them. You can withdraw consent at any time, as set out above; withdrawing does not undo what was already done.

You have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, to have it erased, to receive it in a portable form, to object to processing and to restrict it. Write to support@getsleepful.app and we will answer within one month. Almost everything is on your own device and in your own iCloud, so in most cases you already hold it.

You may complain to your national data protection authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office. Swell Games, TOO is established in Kazakhstan. Data reaching RevenueCat and Meta is processed in the United States, under those companies' own transfer safeguards.

If you are in California

The categories we handle are the ones described above: identifiers, commercial information such as purchases, internet activity such as app opens, location, and the health-related information you enter.

Sending purchase and app-open events with device identifiers to Meta for advertising measurement may count as sharing personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law. You can stop it: decline the tracking request, or turn tracking off in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Tracking. You may also write to support@getsleepful.app.

We do not sell personal information for money. You have the right to know, to delete, to correct and to opt out of sharing, and we will not treat you differently for using those rights.

If you are in Washington State

Washington's My Health My Data Act treats sleep and breathing information as consumer health data, and this page is also our consumer health data privacy notice. That data comes from your own device and your own answers, and it is used to show you your sleep and to set your alarm, as described above.

We do not sell consumer health data and we do not share it for advertising. You may ask what consumer health data we hold, ask us to delete it, and withdraw your consent, by writing to support@getsleepful.app.

Children

Sleepful is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 16, or under 13 in the United States. If you believe a child has given us data, write to support@getsleepful.app and we will delete it.

Security

Your nights and clips sit in the app's private storage on your iPhone, protected by iOS and your passcode. The iCloud copy is written into encrypted fields in your own private database. Connections to RevenueCat, Meta and Open-Meteo use HTTPS.

Changes

If we change how Sleepful handles your data we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant we will ask you again in the app before it takes effect.
